VOLUNTEERING

CRCKY INTERNSHIP 

 

CRCKY accepts application for part-time and full-time internships/practicums on a rolling basis.  Internships will be designed around the intern's area(s) of interest.  This is a particularly good internship if you are interested in learning about how to work with people from different cultures and if you are comfortable working with clients who have undergone trauma.  Applicants who are interested in learning how to help immigrants apply for asylum and work authorization are particularly needed, as are interns who know more than one language.  CRCKY is based in Lexington, Kentucky and interested applicants must be willing and able to work in our office.  For more information, email Dominique Olbert at dominiqueolbert@crcky.org.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please follow the steps below. 
 
We will be having another volunteer training at a date to be determined in Aril.    Please note, you must pre-register for all workshops by emailing Dominique Olbert AND completing the three-part online application as outlined below.  

Potential volunteer activities include helping parents complete passport applications for their children, driving clients to appointments, assembling and delivering food boxes, creating social media posts

VOLUNTEER APPLICATION

If you are interested in becoming a CRCKY volunteer, please (1) email Dominique Olbert at dominiqueolbert@crcky.org AND (2) complete our online application by clicking here.  After the email and application are received, you will be contacted for an interview.  If you do not email dominiqueolbert@crcky.org after completing the online application, your application will not be reviewed.
 

BACKGROUND CHECKS

Due to the confidential nature of our work, CRCKY requires all volunteers with direct client contact to have a background check before they can work with clients.  If you have a background check that is less than two years old, you do not need to obtain a new one.  Instead, please email a scanned copy to Jo Ellen Hayden at joellen@crcky.org and Dominique Olbert at dominiqueolbert@crcky.org.  

If you need to obtain a new background check, please let us know and we will run one.  The background checks cost $19.95 and we ask that you reimburse us if you are in a position to do so.  If you are not, just let us know and CRCKY can cover the expense.  All volunteers in need of a background check through CRCKY must share their date of birth, social security number, and current address with the volunteer coordinator.   Background checks done this way are immediately downloaded and there is no waiting period.

If you prefer not to share your private data, you may request a copy of a background check through the Administrative Office of the Court (AOC).  The background check will be mailed to the address requested on the application.  If you chose to send it to CRCKY, please address it to Dominique Olbert.   The AOC check costs $25 and takes a week or two to be received.

The FBI will do a Criminal History Summary for $18.00, but you also have to submit a set of Fingerprints (which may need to be done by a law enforcement officer for an additional fee; check out the list at http://www.myfbireport.com/locations/lawEnforcement/KY.php#L and scroll down to see Louisville or Lexington locations). You can also try to do the fingerprints yourself; they have a guide on the FBI website.

Financial assistance is available to potential volunteers for whom this fee constitutes a financial hardship. Please email Jo Ellen Hayden at joellen@crcky.org and Dominique Olbert at dominiqueolbert@crcky.org for details.

If you are coming from Richmond Road, please turn onto Patchen Rd, and then make the first left onto the service road.  Our black CRCKY sign is visible over the door as the road curves, just before Waffle House.  You can park next to the awning or go through Waffle House's parking lot.  We are the first business you see after leaving the Waffle House parking lot.

You may have noticed the only way to contact us if there is an emergency is by phone. The CRCKY takes client privacy very seriously. We do not allow any emergency contact to go through FaceBook, or other social media. Since nothing on the internet is ever 100% private, we ask that any confidential information be communicated either in person or by phone.
