Community Hub
There aren't enough immigration lawyers to serve all those who need help in the U.S. Millions of people need representation, the work is grueling, and serving low-income clients often doesn't pay a living wage - so less and less people are able to do the work while more and more people need help. The stakes couldn't be higher: an immigrant with a legal representative is four times more likely to win their case, and today those without one are funneled into mass hearings where applications can be pretermitted - dismissed without a single day in front of a judge. CRCKY's Community Hub is our answer to that gap. We're building a training hub for DOJ Accredited Representatives, mobilizing allies who want to do this work and giving them the skills to do it well. Several of our current interns are already considering careers in immigration law.
CRCKY INTERNSHIPS
CRCKY accepts application for part-time and full-time internships/practicums on a rolling basis. Internships will be designed around the intern's area(s) of interest. This is a particularly good internship if you are interested in learning about how to work with people from different cultures and if you are comfortable working with clients who have undergone trauma. Applicants who are interested in learning how to help immigrants apply for asylum and work authorization are particularly needed, as are interns who know more than one language. CRCKY is based in Lexington, Kentucky and interested applicants must be willing and able to work in our office. For more information, email Dominique Olbert at dominiqueolbert@crcky.org.

HOW TO BECOME A VOLUNTEER
If you are interested in becoming a CRCKY volunteer, please (1) email Dominique Olbert at dominiqueolbert@crcky.org AND (2) complete our online application by clicking here. After the email and application are received, you will be contacted for an interview. If you do not email dominiqueolbert@crcky.org after completing the online application, your application will not be reviewed.
BACKGROUND CHECKSDue to the confidential nature of our work, CRCKY requires all volunteers with direct client contact to have a background check before they can work with clients. If you have a background check that is less than two years old, you do not need to obtain a new one. Instead, please email a scanned copy to Max Eisenburger at max@crcky.org and Dominique Olbert at dominiqueolbert@crcky.org. If you need to obtain a new background check, please let us know and we will run one. The background checks cost $19.95 and we ask that you reimburse us if you are in a position to do so. If you are not, just let us know and CRCKY can cover the expense. All volunteers in need of a background check through CRCKY must share their date of birth, social security number, and current address with the volunteer coordinator. Background checks done this way are immediately downloaded and there is no waiting period. If you prefer not to share your private data, you may request a copy of a background check through the Administrative Office of the Court (AOC). The background check will be mailed to the address requested on the application. If you chose to send it to CRCKY, please address it to Dominique Olbert. The AOC check costs $25 and takes a week or two to be received. Call (502) 573-1682 or submit an online application at:https://www.kycourts.gov/AOC/Information-and-Technology/Pages/Background-Checks.aspx
